Heads up, folks— we’ve been hearing about a new scam targeting Probate applicants. Because probate requires submitting certain documentation into the public record, scammers are pretending to be from the county clerk's office and calling applicants to get their personal and banking information. They're trying to trick people into revealing sensitive details under the guise of official business. But here's the thing: the county clerk's office doesn't make calls like this.
So, if you get a call about your probate case from someone claiming to be from the county clerk’s office, don't spill the beans! Instead, politely let the caller know that any official correspondence should go through your probate attorney’s office—but do not disclose any of your attorney’s information. Your probate attorney is there to handle your case professionally and make sure everything runs smoothly.
If you're worried or have any questions about this, don’t hesitate to contact the attorney you’ve hired to handle probate. We know there’s a lot of moving parts in the probate process, but your attorney is the point of contact for the court regarding your case and you will not receive calls from the county.
